Revenues for the first quarter of 2008 totaled $975 million versus revenues of $1,079 million for the first quarter of 2007. Eco-Fabrik, an Organic Clothing & Accessories Company, announced plans today to extend its "tree planting" reward program to become a quarterly and annual event.

At its inception, the tree planting reward was a one-time honor for those customers who spent the most in 2007 at Eco-Fabrik's online store. Eco-Fabrik teamed up with American Forest, the oldest conservation nonprofit organization in the country, to plant trees in honor of its top 20 customers. Each honoree was given the opportunity to select a dedication for the tree planted. Customers responded positively to this tree planting reward. Thus, "we decided to integrate this initiative into our business operations," said Diana Khan, Eco-Fabrik Cofounder and President. "Our business philosophy goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to the environment and socio-economic values," said Ms. Khan.

Charla Krupp's Basics : Fashion For Grown Ups 2008

It’s a common saying, one we’ve heard many times, but unfortunately is a fashion lie: “Buy this now; wear it forever.” But More magazine’s Charla Krupp says that even basics have an expiration date and though it is difficult to part with pieces we once loved, we need to do so or end up looking boring and outdated. (Charla has done more than 100 style segments on The Today Show and has been a regular on The E! and Home Shopping Network. Her new book, How Not To Look Old is a New York Times bestseller.) How clothes makes you feel is as important as what they say about you. Treat yourself to some new basics and check out the fashions in April’s More magazine. Let me know if you’re interested in seeing the full article. An excerpt below.

The Structured Dress:

Instead of a boxy A-line or droopy knits, a tailored neutral color sheath like this contours an hourglass shape. The wide belt defines and controls your waist.

The Soft Shirtdress:

This crisp-lined navy and white silk print looks like a skirt and top, but it’s one cool body skimming piece in a very forgiving fit.

The Brilliant Anorak

The Cropped White Pants

Color, a strong trend now, works better for most of us on top.

The Sexy White Shirt

The Sharper Pencil Skirt

A new white shirt, a puff-sleeved feminine wrap like this looks good whether you’re bosomy or not, whether you have a waist or not.

Few people, whether visitors or long-time residents, are likely to mistake Asheville for a sister city to the Big Apple. A sibling to Athens, Georgia or Ithaca, New York, sure. But not New York City unless you’re talking about some psychic extension of Brooklyn’s funky-trendy Williamsburg area. Then again, the Western Carolina mountain town does share an important commonality with its unlikely northern ally: Fashion.
The catwalk’s calendar will be completed with 6 invited designers : one Catalan designer working outside of Catalonia, one Spanish and four international designers.

ALBERTO TOUS

Son of a Belgian father and Mallorcan mother, Alberto was born in Palma de Mallorca on December 2nd of 1977. He received his degree in Fashion in 2001 at the Escola de Disseny Superior de Barcelona (ESDI). He presented his first collection on the CIRCUIT catwalk in February 2002, a fashion event in which he participated for three editions. During the Spring-Summer 2004 edition he won the Fresh New Artist prize for the best collection. He doesn’t like to limit himself by the creative process and tends not to look for inspiration in thematic motives, but instead tries to absorb anything that calls his attention in his surroundings. Undefined colours and mixes are the result. His motto: femininity, a process that starts at the fabric’s suggestiveness. Concerning his style: he likes the “Couture à Porter” concept.

In addition to presenting their collections on the catwalk, the 6 designers selected by the international jury will also present their work in a showroom for professionals along with collections by Bambi by Laura, Cecilia Sörensen, Oscar León, Juan Vidal and Serguei Povaguin.
