Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&Co.) yesterday announced financial results for the third quarter ended August 29, 2010, and filed its third-quarter 2010 results on Form 10-Q with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
“We are committed to investing in our strategic initiatives, while diligently controlling costs and managing inventories.”

Third-quarter net revenues grew 7 percent year-over-year on a reported basis. Excluding the effects of currency, revenues grew 8 percent and were up in all three regions. Growth was driven by the strength of the Levi’s® brand in the Americas, the company’s acquisitions in 2009, and the expansion of the company’s dedicated store network worldwide. Revenue declines in the wholesale channel in certain markets partially offset this growth.

Canadian Design Winner Uses Art to Hide Energy-Free Drying Rack
A panel of five eco-innovator judges determined yesterday that the winner of Levi Strauss & Co.’s Care to Air Design Challenge was “Nothing Is What It Seems” by designer Caleb Hill of Canada, based on its ingenuity, environmental sustainability, aesthetics and scalability.
Levi Strauss & Co. launched the “Care to Air” Design Challenge on June 1st to find innovative, covetable and sustainable ways for people to air dry their clothes. After just two months, nearly 140 designs from around the world were submitted for the chance to win up to $10,000 in prizes – and change the way people think about line drying.

Taking a new, innovative approach to integrating community involvement with retailing, the first Levi's® Workshop debuts this week in San Francisco followed by a second expression of the program later this fall in New York City. The Levi's® Workshops will be multi-use spaces, featuring a functional workshop, community event space and retail storefront. Each Workshop is designed to focus on a specific craft including printmaking in the San Francisco Workshop and photography in the New York City shop.

Levi Strauss & Co. Commences Senior Notes Offering

Levi Strauss & Co. today announced that it is commencing a private placement of $460 million aggregate principal amount of U.S. Dollar denominated senior notes due 2020 and €275 million aggregate principal amount of Euro denominated senior notes due 2018. The senior notes are not being registered under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended, and may not be offered or sold in the United States absent registration or an applicable exemption from registration requirements. As of the issue date, the senior notes will be general unsecured senior obligations of the company and will rank equally with all of the company’s other senior unsecured indebtedness.
The company intends to use the net proceeds from the offering to purchase certain of its outstanding notes, to pay fees and expenses related to the offering and the purchase of such outstanding notes, and for general corporate purposes, which may include repaying outstanding indebtedness.
The senior notes are being offered pursuant only to an Offering Memorandum dated April 22, 2010. Statements in this press release regarding the private offering of debt securities shall not constitute an offer to sell or a solicitation of an offer buy such securities.

Goodwill and Levi's® are launching a new initiative this month, "Care Tag for Our Planet," designed at diverting billions of pounds of unwanted clothing from landfills. Levi's® jeans now feature a care tag that encourages owners to donate to Goodwill when no longer needed. The tags are a unique vehicle for educating consumers about how to care for their clothes responsibly.
Donating to Goodwill not only diverts unwanted items from landfills but also helps people who need it most in local communities. Donations of
gently used clothing and other items are sold in Goodwill stores, where the revenues help fund job training programs, employment placement services and other community-based programs for people with disabilities, those who lack education or job experience, and those facing other challenges to finding employment.
