PacSun implemented Dematic’s C-L series of motorized roller conveyors, the new Dematic FlexSort SL sorter, and a Dematic Put to Light order fulfillment system for a fully integrated, intuitive and intelligent system, all from a single source. Dematic’s totally integrated warehouse control system provides sophisticated order fulfillment, material flow control, comprehensive incident management, maintenance management and advanced performance analysis capabilities. This fully integrated software system is the core of the material handling system. Accessible via Dematic’s web based portal from anywhere on PacSun network it provides users with a view of all vital system information at one glance.

An advanced Incident Management system alerts operators to any event that inhibits the material flow through the PacSun system. A Performance Management solution provides full warehouse performance analysis capabilities for continued optimization.

PacSun needed a vendor that could deliver a complete solution that would accommodate up to 93 packers simultaneously and help PacSun support the company’s newest retail concept, ‘one thousand steps’, a specialty footwear store chain targeted toward customers seeking fashion forward footwear. According to Kirk Williams, PacSun’s Director of DC Operations, Dematic came in and delivered a solution to PacSun in roughly half the time it would normally have taken. “Dematic was one of the few companies that fully understood our business objectives and could deliver the solution on our tight timeframe, said Williams. “The leading edge technology with the Dematic C-L series conveyor and the Dematic FlexSort SL sorter, combined with their many years of experience will give PacSun the tools we need to get the most out of our supply chain.”

PacSun had a very tight schedule, with vendor selection, a new building being built, Dematic’s newest technologies installed, testing, and go live all within 9 months. PacSun worked with Sedlak, distribution consultants, designers and systems integrators, to help design the facility and select the right vendor to meet PacSun’s needs. Sedlak provided project management support throughout the process.

According to Patrick Sedlak, vice president of Sedlak, PacSun’s new distribution center called for specific, highly automated material handling systems. “Our innovative design coupled with Dematic’s advanced technology makes this new facility exactly what PacSun needs to meet their business goals.”

The PacSun project showcases almost the entire Dematic product suite and draws particular attention to the value of the software portion of the solution. “This software system brings all the components together into a synchronous solution that is raising the benchmark for a warehouse control system and sets the new standard for the industry," said Rob Bork, Dematic’s VP Business Development and Sales. “We’re very excited about working with PacSun as this site highlights a complete solution that includes the Dematic FlexSort SL sliding shoe sorter, C-L series conveyor, put to light picking, and the full complement of our system management software to manage all of it.”
