There is nothing more exciting than dressing up your kids in chic clothes and getting the compliments from friends and relatives, other parents or even your kid’s playmates and teachers!

With the arrival of the Fall season, here are a few tips for mums and dads on how to get the trendy look for your kids, even if you are not Samantha Cameron.

This winter season, grungy rock star look is the hottest and most fashion-forward. That means avant garde asymmetrical tailoring, baggy pants, denims, a mish-mash of badges and scarves. In terms of pattern and texture, tartans and plaids in all styles are much favoured.

For a warm, luxurious look, stock up lambskin articles and fur trimmed vests, coats or jackets. Older children can look funky and confident in military style jackets and biker jackets. Padded jackets are also the trendy items.

Colours are very democratic this season, with the coolest shades being primary colours such as berry red, navy blue and turqoise.

Warm leggings and tights – especially colourful prints or fantastic stripes – will be the subject of envy. In this arena I found some from the collections designer brands like Bobo Choses and No Added Sugar especially cute. One big thing this season is ‘jeggings’, a crossover of jeans and leggings that will keep your kids warm and smart.

Younger moms: do not be afraid to dress up your babies in colourful rompers with prints. Comfy and playful knitted hats, even striped ones or those with funky pom poms, will be an apt fashion statement.
