NYC Fashionistas host Obama fundraising designer clothing swap with a
“Go-Green” theme
Vogue Magazine was the first to recognize Michelle Obama as an “It Girl” in April 2008. Now a group of New York City fashionistas are hosting a fundraising designer clothing swap for the Obama campaign. The hosts want to raise funds for the Obama campaign and celebrate Michelle Obama’s stylish turns on the campaign trail. Event hosts Consuela Nance
and Maureen Martin see Michelle Obama as an inspiring woman with a savvy style. “Clearly she knows what suits her and we love that she embraces colors. We are excited to see how her style will influence designers as well as women who imitate her style.”
“Everyone knows that people respond to the way you look when you run for office,” André Leon Talley, an editor-at-large for Vogue -- which featured Mrs. Obama as an “It” girl in its April issue -- said last week in an interview. “A black Camelot moment is the right moment for the Obamas,” he added. “And so the faux pearls, the A-line dresses, the Jackie flip are obviously all part of how her image strategy has evolved.”
On July 28th you too can make your choice known by participating in a clothing swap networking event in TriBeCa. Proceeds raised from this event will go directly to support the Obama '08 election campaign. The hosts have gathered gorgeous frocks and accessories by established designers including DKNY, Hale Bob, Ann Klein and Tecasan, plus independent designers like Catou couture to name a few. “We planned this event with a 'go green' theme. We all love designer fashions, and what better way to protect the environment than recycling your wardrobe? Plus, you are supporting Barack and Michelle Obama and networking with other fashionable New Yorkers." For the small ticket price ($10) and donation of a gently used designer piece, you too can join in on the Swap.
