Maidenform Brands, Inc. (NYSE: MFB), a global branded marketer of intimate apparel, today announced that Robert Gardner has been named General Manager of the new Donna Karan and DKNY women's intimate apparel license announced on May 6, 2008. In this role, Mr. Gardner will oversee all key aspects of the business which is expected to launch at the beginning of 2009. Mr. Gardner will report to Maurice Reznik, Maidenform's President.
Most recently, Mr. Gardner was Vice President of Sales for Maidenform's Department Store Business. Prior to that, he worked in driving sales for Warnaco's Calvin Klein division, as well as having sales responsibilities for Tommy Hilfiger at VF Corporation. Mr. Gardner began his career in retail as a buyer and ultimately a Division Vice President at Kaufmann's Department Store, now part of Macy's, Inc., where he spent thirteen years.
Commenting on the announcement, Maurice Reznik stated, "Since joining Maidenform in 2003, Rob has leveraged his extensive brand building expertise to help fuel our sales growth. We are excited to maximize Rob's strong retail and branded sales background to penetrate new distribution opportunities for us, principally in high-end department and specialty stores worldwide, that will drive additional sales growth for the Company in 2009 and beyond.
The Donna Karan and DKNY license opportunity will be another vehicle to enhance our financial performance with powerful brands that bring meaningful innovation to the marketplace globally resulting in strong product differentiation."
Mr. Gardner received a Bachelor of Arts degree in writing and a Bachelor of Science degree in business from the University of Pittsburgh.
