Gerber Technology and VESTEX have cooperated for many years, supporting the growth of the Guatemalan apparel industry since the 1990s, and now have joined with INTECAP in the most exciting educational venture in the region. With 25 advanced technology workstations, consisting primarily of AccuMark™ Professional Edition V8, Gerber’s most powerful solution for pattern design, grading and marker making, but also including Vision® Fashion Studio, the revolutionary product design and illustration software that enables true-to-life computerized fashion design to streamline the creative process, INTECAP is now positioned to offer full training for CAD operators and fashion designers, which will cement and strengthen the growth of the apparel industry in the CAFTA zone. INTECAP’s new design and training center is also equipped with a Gerber Infinity™ Inkjet Plotter, an SP200 Plotter/Pattern Cutter, a digitizing table and several free-hand art design electronic pen tablets.
Founded in 1972, INTECAP has a long tradition of educating the youth of Guatemala and the entire Central American Region. For more than 30 years it has been responsible for providing vocational training and technical assistance to private companies and associations that require specialized support to increase their productivity. INTECAP has also been a cornerstone in the development of specific industries, such as apparel, for which they provide highly skilled technical personnel through various programs. Their academic focus is strongly linked to the industry’s needs, both by offering technical education alternatives to students before they enter the workforce, and by designing specific programs for currently employed workers who wish to enhance their capabilities or for companies and industry associations which require certain abilities to be developed by their employees.
Cesar Castillo, manager of the INTECAP campus in Guatemala City said, “We need to be at the vanguard of technical education, and only by having the most advanced equipment and software will we be able to achieve this goal. We have an enormous commitment to our youngsters, our enterprises and our country, and in this task we need to have the best resources in order to succeed.” Mr. Castillo came to INTECAP as part of the organizational modernization of the Institute and has brought a lot of experience, leadership and enthusiasm to the Institute.
“Gerber Technology has always believed in Central America, and we constantly support actions that tangibly demonstrate our commitment to the region,” said Jorge De León, General Manager for Mexico & Central America, Gerber Technology. “I am also very excited to know that the vision of Don Juan Sánchez, a valued customer of Gerber and a member of INTECAP’s Directive Board, has become a reality. The project has also been enriched with the experience of Yasmina Chuy, who is very knowledgeable in the operation of Gerber software and hardware, and has received continuous training from us through the years, including advanced software applications at our headquarters in Tolland, Connecticut.” Yasmina will be in charge of the courses at INTECAP, ensuring that the training provided meets the apparel industry’s expectations.
A world-leading software and hardware supplier of CAD/CAM and PDM/PLM solutions, Gerber believes it has a responsibility to continuously help expose students to the latest technology. Gerber provides access to software and hardware technology to more than 760 educational institutions in more than 60 countries around the globe.
