It’s a common saying, one we’ve heard many times, but unfortunately is a fashion lie: “Buy this now; wear it forever.” But More magazine’s Charla Krupp says that even basics have an expiration date and though it is difficult to part with pieces we once loved, we need to do so or end up looking boring and outdated. (Charla has done more than 100 style segments on The Today Show and has been a regular on The E! and Home Shopping Network. Her new book, How Not To Look Old is a New York Times bestseller.) How clothes makes you feel is as important as what they say about you. Treat yourself to some new basics and check out the fashions in April’s More magazine. The Structured Dress:

Instead of a boxy A-line or droopy knits, a tailored neutral color sheath like this contours an hourglass shape. The wide belt defines and controls your waist.
The Soft Shirtdress:

This crisp-lined navy and white silk print looks like a skirt and top, but it’s one cool body skimming piece in a very forgiving fit.
The Brilliant Anorak
The Cropped White Pants

Color, a strong trend now, works better for most of us on top.
The Sexy White Shirt
The Sharper Pencil Skirt

A new white shirt, a puff-sleeved feminine wrap like this looks good whether you’re bosomy or not, whether you have a waist or not.
