Macys, Inc. (NYSE:M) announced that Tony Spring has been named president of its New York-based Bloomingdales division, effective immediately. Since 2005, Spring has served as Bloomingdales senior executive vice president and director of stores, with additional responsibility for Bloomingdales shopping services and creative services.

In his new role, Spring will be responsible for the divisions stores, marketing, creative services, finance, operations and restaurants. He will continue to report to Bloomingdales Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Gould.

As Bloomingdales grows its presence nationally, the addition of an operating principal will provide the division with additional management resources and support, said Macys, Inc. Vice Chair Susan D. Kronick, to whom Bloomingdales reports. Tony Spring is an exceptional executive who has proven himself to be resourceful and creative in supporting growth of the Bloomingdales brand. He and Mike Gould will represent a powerful principal team as Bloomingdales continues to build its market presence serving the needs of fashion-forward, upscale customers coast to coast.

Spring, 43, began his career at Bloomingdales in 1987 after graduating with a bachelors degree from Cornell Universitys School of Hotel and Restaurant Management. He started as an executive trainee in the White Plains store and went on to hold various buying positions in the home furnishing area. In 1995, Spring was promoted to senior vice president for home furnishings, and two years later was named senior vice president for marketing.

In 1998, Spring was promoted to executive vice president for marketing and in 2003 added bloomingdales.com, Bloomingdales by Mail and restaurants to his responsibilities. In 2004, Spring was named senior executive vice president responsible for marketing, Bloomingdales Direct and restaurants before becoming director of stores in 2005.

Spring is actively involved in community activities and serves as a director of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. He lives with his wife, Grace, and two sons in the New York area.
