With the growing demand for improved drive electronics and motor control to help reduce manufacturing costs, improve efficiencies and device reliability, this trend is driving the wide scale use of brushless DC motors in servo motor applications. The AEDS-9240 optical encoder series, addresses this need by providing designers with an incremental encoder module that provides advanced motion control detection with integrated commutation outputs that are equivalent to those produced by Hall Switches.
Avago’s AEDS-9240 six channel incremental encoder module has also been designed with two-channel quadrature outputs, and a third channel ungated index output. It detects rotary position using a codewheel that has an optical radius of 19.00 mm (0.748 inch) to obtain 360 or 720 cycles per revolution (CPR). The ungated index output is a positive index pulse that is generated once for each full rotation of the codewheel. Each module consists of a lensed LED source and a detector IC enclosed in a small plastic package. In addition, the encoder module incorporates a highly collimated light source and a unique photo detector array to make the AEDS-9240 extremely tolerant to mounting misalignment.
Features
- Two-channel quadrature output with ungated index pulse (A,B,I)
- Three-channel integrated commutation output (U,V,W)
- Easy assembly with alignment jig
- Designed to fit into a circular shaped housing
- Up to 150 kHz frequency response
- Operating temperature: -40 to 100-degrees C
