ALBERTO TOUS
Son of a Belgian father and Mallorcan mother, Alberto was born in Palma de Mallorca on December 2nd of 1977. He received his degree in Fashion in 2001 at the Escola de Disseny Superior de Barcelona (ESDI). He presented his first collection on the CIRCUIT catwalk in February 2002, a fashion event in which he participated for three editions. During the Spring-Summer 2004 edition he won the Fresh New Artist prize for the best collection. He doesn’t like to limit himself by the creative process and tends not to look for inspiration in thematic motives, but instead tries to absorb anything that calls his attention in his surroundings. Undefined colours and mixes are the result. His motto: femininity, a process that starts at the fabric’s suggestiveness. Concerning his style: he likes the “Couture à Porter” concept.
In addition to presenting their collections on the catwalk, the 6 designers selected by the international jury will also present their work in a showroom for professionals along with collections by Bambi by Laura, Cecilia Sörensen, Oscar León, Juan Vidal and Serguei Povaguin.
BAMBI BY LAURA
Laura Figueras, creator of the company, was born in Barcelona in 1980 and is one of the new faces in the current fashion panorama. She worked for Preen. Bambi by Laura is commercialized world-wide in shops such as Pineal Eye in London, Faline and YMF in Tokyo, Olga in Paris, Dernier Cri in New York and Mucha Candela in Spain.
CECILIA SÖRENSEN
This designer, born in Helsinki in 1976, has been working in Barcelona for many years.
Sörensen has taken part in various fashion events such as Bread&Butter in Barcelona and Berlin, and Rendez-Vous in Paris. Her stockists can be found in Barcelona, San Sebastian and La Coruña, as well as in Finland, Sweden, Japan, Italy and France.
OSCARLEON
From the beginning OSCARLEON sought to design a universe parallel to that of fashion addressed to the great masses, and with this purpose it has created a world of its own away from any stereotype, for a woman who does not need to follow conventional norms or who believes in things beyond the concept of fashion for the sake of fashion. OSCARLEON has designed for a number of international firms, such as Artpil and Canellas amongst others, and has presented his collections at international showrooms such as Paris’ ZIP
ZONE and Showroom Barcelona.
JUAN VIDAL
Twenty-five-year-old Juan Vidal comes from a family linked to the world of fashion.
Descending from a line of tailors, Vidal started at the age of 15 to design his first night dresses and bride gowns. He studied the first cycle of Fine Arts in Barcelona to acquire – according to words by its creator – “the artistic notions on drawing and sculpture”, and completed his training at the Escola Superior de Disseny i Moda Felicidad Duce. At the end of his studies, Vidal presented a mini collection at the ModaFAD where he obtained the prize for the best collection, an award that opened the doors of the Bread&Butter Barcelona (2006).
SERGUEI POVAGUIN
Serguei Povaguin was born in Klintsy (Russia) in 1980. While still a teenager, he moved to Spain. He studied at the University of Southampton and graduated in fashion and textile design at the Escola Superior de Disseny (ESDI) in Sabadell, Spain. He lives in Barcelona, where he has his atelier since 1998. Among his first projects stands out “I Love Spain”, which obtained the Pure White award to the best ModaFAD collection (summer 2002) and “Flamenco”, presented at the London Graduate Fashion Week (May 2004), at the Berliner Durcheise Preview (July 2004) and at the Genial Fashion STIB (Saló Tèxtil Internacional de Barcelona) in September 2004. He also participated in Passarel·la Gaudí and Barcelona Bridal Week
THE SETTING FOR THE SHOWS
In this first edition, the Parc de la Ciutadella will be the venue for the shows. The marquee for the presentations of the collections by the 12 participating designers will be set up just by the park’s famous fountain. An ephemeral and innovative structure has been chosen for the occasion that interacts with the fountain’s water and the surrounding architecture, while fitting in with the environment and incorporating into the event the park itself.
The Parc de la Ciutadella offers an ideal location, contributing culture and history to an avant-garde event as is the 080 BARCELONA FASHION, sizing up time. Quality of contemporaneous. Innovation.
