When it comes to men's fashion, there is generally a main rule of
thumb: keep it simple. Coming from a woman's point of view, I find that
when men dress simple and more classic, they look put-together and
mature. And although I'm just one girl and do not necessarily represent
the entire female population, I feel that there is nothing better than
a man that looks put-together and exudes confidence.
Probably one of the most pieces of clothing that many men get wrong is the classic
black leather belt.
When it comes to men's accessories, simplicity is key. Many men make
the mistake of wearing flashy, and just plain ugly black leather belts.
So if you're one of those men that are in dire need of a fashion
intervention, then may be you should read on, because I'm here to give
you the dos and don'ts to wearing
black leather belts.
Do: Choose a simple dressy-casual belt.I
know, you're probably thinking, what's with all the 'simple' talk
again. But trust me, every single man needs a simple black leather
belt'reason being? Well, many men out there need a simple yet classic
belt that can be transcended through a multiple of occasions. From
work, to a nice dinner out with your girl, to even a casual day
out'every man needs a belt that is versatile. A plain belt like the
Black Leather Belt from the
Men's Warehouse
for $29.99 is the perfect example of a 'jack-of-all-trades' kind of
belt that can be worn for any event. Made out of genuine leather, the
belt features a clean looking silver-colored metal buckle that has an
easy fastening. It is a simply a great belt, and something that any
grown man should have.
Don't: Buy a belt that looks too flashy. If
it looks like something that Dolly Parton would wear, then men, just
walk away. I know she might be rockin' the rhinestones, but not all of
us can pull of this look. What's really sad is that there are a lot of
just tacky men's belts out there that are better left on the shelves
rather than your waist. There are many men's leather belts that have
horrible details on them, like heavy artillery (i.e. bullets),
rhinestones, and brocade embossed leather. Really, there is no need to
subject your girlfriend, date or significant other with these fashion
monstrosities.
Do: Find a belt that has sleek buckles. When
it comes to modern men's wear, there is certain sleekness to it. Clean
lines and modern designs are very much in style. If you want to play up
the boring black leather belt, then might I suggest a belt that has a
special, modern-looking, buckle like the
J. Lineberg
Twinner Pulp Leather Belt. This item, which retails at $94 is made out
of textured pulp leather and has a sleek monochromatic buckle.
Certainly the man wearing this belt is a man with style.
Don't: Wear cowboy buckle belts.Unless
you're a real deal, house ridding, lasso throwing cowboy, then you
really have no place to wear a huge belt buckle. Cowboys wear belts
like these because it is their lifestyle, being a cowboy is their life,
which means that they are pretty much entitled to wear them. But if
you're just an average Joe, with a 9 to 5 job driving a mini-van, then
please just leave the huge buckle belts to the real cowboys.
I
hope that this journey through the do's and don't of men's black
leather belts left you a little more wiser. Remember, a man's belt is
an accessory that should complement the man, not the other way around.
