So we thought we made the big time when we bought a limo for $4,000 bucks on eBay, drove it across the country and then proceeded to cover it with spray-painted art. Well,
someone decided to steal our fire. The folks over at InStyle Magazine chose to put one of our shirts in an article. The June issue's Fashion 101 - T-shirts story features Robert Earl couture's "poka poka dot" tee. I tried to get a comment from the artist himself, "Robert Earl," but he refused to comment. (He told us to put that.)
So the fashion show on a jet may seem a bit far-fetched. But if we sell enough shirts we'll do it, and a bunch of other crazed-out ideas along the way. So by now I bet you're wondering, what exactly is Robert Earl Couture?
Espresso version of who we are:
Robert Earl Couture would like to be the first designer clothing line on the moon. But first we need to buy a (veggie-powered) rocket pack for our limo. We offer original, one-of-a-kind men's and women's clothing. Every garment is made in small limited runs and hand-signed by the artist (Robert Earl) to secure authenticity. We may be small now, but wait until we get big and have China trying to bootleg our signatures ...
Now for those of you who are reading this at work:
We're not a company that was started on the foundation of making a lot of money and earning a lot of cool points (although both would be sweet). We started this as a joke, a happy accident of sorts. Because we didn't just want to make clothes, we wanted to create an experience. On the simple principle of just having fun and at the same time making people say "what the fook" ... But all we really want to do is make enough money so we can pay for our crazy ideas.
But don't get us confused with party, party, party. We do have our fun:spray-painting our limo, junk art shows, tattooing our designs on people (please call for appointments), and our indoor inflatable Jacuzzi parties. But we at Robert Earl Couture want to do more than that, to create a spark of social responsibility. We're not talking hippy designs. We just want you to know that when you wear our shirts it means more than just silk labels with funny words. We stand behind many things but the general core of our reality is being environmentally and socially conscious. I know that may sound very granola, but we're not, we're more of a soy espresso-powered Jaguar, if that makes any sense ... We won't be perfect, but at least we'll
try. Sure our limo isn't run on bio diesel (our next one will), but it is a form of carpooling.
