Macy’s, Inc. (NYSE: M) today reported total sales of $2.045 billion for the five weeks ended July 4, 2009, a decrease of 9.1 percent compared with total sales of $2.249 billion in the five weeks ended July 5, 2008. On a same-store basis, Macy’s, Inc. sales were down 8.9 percent in June. This is consistent with management’s expectations and the company’s year-to-date sales trend.

For the year to date, Macy’s, Inc.’s sales totaled $8.988 billion, down 9.4 percent from total sales of $9.922 billion in the first 22 weeks of 2008. On a same-store basis, Macy’s, Inc.’s year-to-date sales were down 9.0 percent.

Online sales (macys.com and bloomingdales.com combined) were up 8.2 percent in June 2009 and 13.6 percent for the year to date. Online sales are included in the same-store sales calculation for Macy's, Inc.
