The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) and the Moroccan Federation of Leather Industries (FEDIC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation between their organizations and promote trade.

“The MOU we sign today is a testament to roles our organizations play in supporting both our home country economies and the global marketplace,” said AAFA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke.  “Having reliable alliances and partnerships around the world always works to the advantage of our stakeholders by providing opportunities for problem solving and ‘on the ground’ expertise.”

FEDIC President Mohamed AMAIZ commented, “We consider that the signing of this MOU is the starting point for a long lasting relationship that will fruitfully yield results to the benefit of our industry members and contribute to the promotion of trade between The United States of America and the Kingdom of Morocco ”

Since its entry into force, the U.S. – Morocco Free Trade Agreement has spurred continued economic growth between the two countries.  U.S. exports to Morocco accounted for nearly $1.5 billion in 2008, up 31.1 percent from 2007.  Moroccan exports to the U.S. increased nearly 44.1 percent from 2007 to just under $900 million in 2008.

Under the terms of the MOU, AAFA and FEDIC will maintain an open dialogue to better facilitate the footwear trade that occurs between the two countries.  By enhancing cooperation, this partnership will create an expanded network for trade solutions and lead to more business opportunities for our respective members.
