Renaissance Costumes- Glitter and Identity of Many Occasions

Renaissance festival which was started in the backyard of a school teacher has now taken a giant leap and today they are celebrated all over the country. People take the leisure of renaissance foods, theatrical performances, acrobatics and the background in the theme of bygone eras but the main attraction of this event are renaissance costumes.

In any great civilization, costumes play a very important and prominent role, they are just like mirrors which reflect the image of civil society and this holds very true for medieval era. During that period people were differentiated on the basis of material and color of the fabrics which was totally unjustified and inhuman in nature. Lower class people were not allowed to wear expensive and extravagant cloths just like nobles and royals. The civil society at that time was going through a great civic turmoil or we can say an immense civil disturbance due to economical and political crises, war, diseases and disregard for civilians by law makers. In spite of all such hindrances many branches of arts saw development and expansion, one of such field were of medieval costumes.

At that time for lower class people, costumes meant utility and need but for upper class people they were the means of showing their status. They were trendsetters and fashionable in their own terms. The opportunity of investment at that time was very rare and the clothing worn by ruling class were costliest because the fabrics used in designing their cloths were rare and hard to reproduce due to this factor they were seen as a source of investment by their wearer and designer for the hard days.

Now all the historical facts of middle ages are the source of inspiration and enjoyment for today’s youth and renaissance costume is an important part of it. In modern world also the charm and allure of renaissance costumes hasn’t diminished, it is increasing only. Many fashion designers are making their clothing lines envied from that era. They are exploring the possibilities of making these costume dresses according to modern youth. The costumes of Hollywood movies based on historical incidents and fictional one are inspired from medieval costumes. Some costumes like Celtic chemise are also wearable in day to day life. They are not only appropriate for today’s fashion world but also are cost effective.

Apart from renaissance fair they are also worn on Halloween parties, pirate theme based parties, wedding based on medieval themes. Such parties and events are a great way of learning experience because you get to know a few very interesting historical facts along with some cherish able moments, to this costume dresses and fancy dresses add the much needed momentum to it.

Renaissance period was all about regal etiquette, great wealth, uniqueness in art and entirely distinct way of living. Layered cloths, lavish trims, antiques of buttons and eyelets in front, beautiful laces, rich embroidery, precious stones and gems are some interesting features of medieval costume dresses.

If you want to buy renaissance clothing, costumes, dresses and medieval costumes then research on magazine, books and internet will help you to find appropriate wardrobe but in my opinion internet searching will be the best option as it allow you to choose from its vast collection with minute detail of clothing and provides easy way for placing an order.
